Dear High School Graduate. You are 18, graduating high school with life just waiting to be lived. You are excited, nervous, and ready for this moment. The possibilities are endless, and you about to take the plunge into real LIFE. No more bathroom passes, no more high school cliques, no more assigned lockers, and no more assigned seats.
Dear High School Graduate. I encourage you. Hold on to these moments. The memories, and the life you are currently living. Graduating is such an exciting journey. The sky is the limit for your future. You could go anywhere, be anything, be anyone. It is up to you.
Dear High School Graduate. Experience life. Take opportunities. Push yourself beyond your limits. Find out who you are. Find out what you believe in. See places, and learn about new things.
Dear High School Graduate. I know that it is overwhelming. I know that you think you know exactly where you are going, and have a plan all laid out. I know that life seems intimidating at times, and guess what, it is. It is intimidating yet thrilling, exciting, and liberating. Be open to change. Be open to what may come, or what may happen. Don’t be tied down by a plan, or by how you think it should be.
Dear High School Graduate. You do not have to figure out all the answers for your future in this moment. You do not have your 10 year plan set in stone. Learn who you are, and then learn what you want to do. Remember that what you go to school for may not be what you do. Remember that what you start in, may not be what you finish in. Remember that as your grow, your passions grow. Do not be scared to dream, and dream big!
Dear High School Graduate. Take risks. Do not hold yourself back. Get involved, meet new people, and try many types of things. Do not limit yourself to one thing, but learn what you love. You never know what you will figure out.
Dear High School Graduate. In five years from now, you will look back and think “I never imagine my life to look like this, but I wouldn’t change a thing.” You will have stories, advice, and experiences that are irreplaceable. Whether good or bad. You learned from them, and that is what is important.
Dear High School Graduate. Work hard, play hard, and be wise. Word, and save. Do not spend money carelessly. And do not save to the point of not having fun. Learn to budget. Learn to save. And learn when it is okay to treat yourself or go out with friends. As much as possible, avoid debt.
Dear High School Graduate. Do not always wait for opportunity to come to you. Seek out opportunity. If you want to work in a certain place, seek out people in that field. Learn from them. Look for summer jobs that are different from each other, and maybe in different cities or even countries. Volunteer in places that maybe intimidate you. Always be learning, and always be teachable.
Dear High School Graduate. Enjoy every moment. Hold on to life, and live it to the full. Learn from mistakes, and do not be scared to fail. Success doesn’t come without failure. Success comes when you fail, get up, and try again until you get it right.
Dear High School Graduate. Do not worry about having a million friends. Invest in friendships that will be lasting, and keep them forever. Spend time with your family, and be intentional about your decisions. When making decisions think “how is this benefiting my life, or my future?”
Dear High School Graduate. Remember that character speaks louder than skills. Build good character. Be kind. Be patient. Be loving, and loyal. Be authentic, and true to who you are. Be dedicated, hard working, and remember to put God first above all else. He will carry you through when those hard moments comes. And they will. In moments of trial, hold on to truth.
Dear High School Graduate. Enjoy your life – you only get one!! 🙂
