I have heard the saying “Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder” so many times. Each time I hear it I struggle with what it means. If my beauty is measured by someone else’s eyes, then is it not going to change based on who is looking? Well, no offence, but this is not really what I want. I want my beauty to remain constant, regardless of who is looking. So as I look at this saying I realize that it actually can be true depending on who my beholder is. If you had asked me one month ago what I was going to do when I came back from Romania in March my response would have been this; “I have no idea, but I am trusting that God will show me soon.” Well he has shown me.
I recently posted a new GOFUNDME campaign on facebook. First I need to say this. I am literally blown away by the generosity of people. The number of people who share my campaign, the number of people who gave. It is overwhelming. I was sitting at the table one morning writing, and I was brought to tears to think of how kind people are. Thank you does not begin to describe how grateful I am. Miles away, worlds apart is the reality of many. The truth is you can be 1 mile, 2 miles, 1000 miles or even neighbours with an individual and yet the life that you live is worlds apart from each other. This is something that I am learning is true universally.
One thing that I have learnt through my travelling over the years is the distinct differences and how obvious the poverty is in other countries. There is a very clear line between the posh, and the poor. People living in boxes or broken down buildings, to people living in beautiful homes. There is even a chance that they could be neighbours. You know those days when you wake up feeling so overwhelmed? You feel as if your head is going to explode. You have a to-do list that is never-ending, a list of dreams that is even bigger, and a day that seems to go by so quickly you feel like you barely accomplished anything. I do. I know that feeling all to well. I wake up almost daily with a list of tasks that I want to complete. But the even bigger, growing, list that is going through my mind is my list of dreams. The ideas that I have for my future, the places that my mind naturally wanders to, and thinks “what if?” or “oh, how I would love to do this”. I am a huge dreamer. I have dreams that are less complex and others that are not so small. Today I woke up feeling all this. I had intended on waking up much earlier than I did, but that did not happen. Although, my morning started off fine, I was left feeling a little overwhelmed this morning with all the things I want to do throughout my lifetime. [Read more…]
